Equality Statement and Objectives

At Newnham St Peter's Church of England Primary School, our commitment to ensuring equality of opportunity extends to all pupils, staff, parents, and carers, regardless of race, gender, disability, belief, sexual orientation, age, or socio-economic background. Our overarching goal is to foster a culture of inclusion and diversity, where everyone associated with the school takes pride in their identity and actively participates in school life.

We address discrimination by actively promoting equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes, and cultivating an environment that upholds respect for all.

We firmly believe that diversity is a strength, deserving respect and celebration from everyone involved in learning, teaching, and visiting our school.

As a Church of England school, our community is underpinned by Christian values that inform our vision, aims, ethos, curriculum design, policies, statements, planning, and the school's overall management and governance.

Equality in Teaching and learning

We are dedicated to providing all our pupils with the opportunity to succeed and achieve the highest level of personal accomplishment. We accomplish this by:

  • Ensuring equal access for all pupils and preparing them for life in a diverse society.
  • Utilising materials that reflect the diversity of the school population and local community without resorting to stereotypes.
  • Promoting attitudes and values that actively challenge discriminatory behaviour and prejudice.
  • Providing opportunities for pupils to appreciate their own culture and celebrate the diversity of other cultures.
  • Engaging all parents in supporting their child's education.
  • Implementing teaching approaches suitable for the entire school population that are inclusive and reflective of our diverse student body.

Equality in Admissions and Exclusions

Our admissions arrangements are designed to be fair, transparent, and free from discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexuality, religion, belief, disability, and/or socio-economic background.

Equal Opportunities for Staff

All staff appointments and promotions are based on merit and ability, aligning with legal requirements. We actively seek to ensure that the school's staffing reflects the diversity of our community.
