St Peter's Church
Our school is a Church of England school and has close links with St Peter’s Church in Newnham.
Our Christian foundation shapes the life of our school. We seek to be an inclusive community of faith, hope and love, with a particular focus on love. This underpins our vision: ‘cherish everyone, flourish together and serve others’. In practice, this means everyone is welcome to be part of our school community, where we seek to grow in understanding of all people, those of any faith and none.
Staff and children visit St Peter’s Church for school services every month, to which families are also invited. We use the church as a resource to support the RE curriculum and members of the church community are involved in the everyday life of the school.
In school, collective worship takes various forms during the week. Staff and children help to lead worship for the whole school and in their classrooms. They have opportunities to ask ‘big questions’ about life and faith, to which all answers are welcomed and explored. Each classroom has a prayer corner; children are encouraged to engage with prayer in a way which is accessible and relevant. Children are given the tools to become global citizens, aware of the needs of others and of the earth.
As a Church School we have a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) Inspection every five years. At our last inspection in 2017, our school was judged to be outstanding. In 2023, a new inspection framework was introduced. It explores how a school’s theologically rooted Christian vision shapes its work and enables the school to live up to its foundation as a Church School.
